Turnstile Pottery Co-op is a cooperatively managed, fully equipped pottery studio, available to clay artists through membership and to the general public through classes and weekly drop-ins. A variety of artwork is on display and for sale by each of the members.
The studio first opened its doors in 2001 at its previous location on Gottingen Street, and has been growing and evolving ever since.
In 2008, Turnstile Pottery relocated to 2733 Agricola Street, where it continues to offer memberships for clay artists, classes and other programs for the general public, as well extended storefront hours for pottery sales.
As a co-operative, Turnstile is owned and operated by each of its members, who use the studio space at his or her own leisure as one might their own pottery studio. Working as a co-operative, we share responsibilities and provide each other with on-going studio support… operating the business, repairing equipment and sharing critiques. Over the years, Turnstile has provided studio space to over 40 artists in all stages of their ceramic careers.
Turnstile also offers a variety of pottery classes from introductory-level to advanced, in handbuilding and throwing, to children, adults and seniors. Turnstile also hosts a weekly Open Studio Drop-In on Thursday evenings from 7:30-9pm. As well we offer a weekly Sculpture Night with live model, on Tuesdays from 8-9pm for sculptors and illustrators of all levels. Private lessons can also be arranged.
A variety of artwork is on display and for sale by each of the studio members. The studio is open for pottery sales 1-5pm Tues-Sat, or at other times by chance or by appointment.
