Rosemary Clarke Young
Medium: Painting
Although always experimenting with new ideas, most recently encaustic painting, I am frequently drawn to painting interiors in oil. I love the play of light and shadow and the way light or sun on objects affects colour.

Profile:
Born in Montreal, Canada
Bedford based artist Rosemary Clarke Young studied art in Montreal, and later at Barat College, Lake Forest, Illinois, the Art Institute of Chicago and Arizona State University in Phoenix. She has exhibited primarily at local galleries and shows, and also in New Brunswick and Montreal. Works purchased from the artist are in collections throughout North America.
Since 2008 I have enjoyed teaching art - approximately 10 classes per week - to children aged 5-15 in local schools through the Halifax Regional Municipality Recreation Program. The varied art projects we pursue help develp my own interest in experimenting with new ideas, subjects and mediums. Most of my work is painting in oil on canvas or wood, and I prefer interior scenes and portraits that capture light and shadow; often subdued subjects and muted colours. My most recent work combines encaustics with added paints, papers and fibers.
I have designed and painted many murals, interior and exterior, in both public and private spaces.
The majority of my painting has been commission work.
I use the signature ‘Lark’ for my artwork.
