Extended Profile
Laurie (Publicover) Mireau studied Education at Dalhousie and the University of Alberta and had a career as a classroom teacher, university lecturer and school administrator. She took art studio courses for four summers at NSCAD (1968-1971) and took over 48 studio courses in Fine Arts Extension at the University of Alberta in Edmonton (from 1976-1991 taking breaks from teaching). She retired from Education to pursue painting full time in 1994 and moved back to Halifax. She continues to refine her own painting and drawing skills by studying with local art teachers and visiting art instructors.
She is always inspired by the south coast of Nova Scotia- particularly around her family home in Hubbards. Reflections in water are a favorite subject as well as street scenes in Halifax. She also enjoys painting people and still-life arrangements. Laurie often works in watercolor but switches to oil and acrylic for larger-sized pieces designed for boardrooms or office walls. She offers classes in painting and drawing and enjoys helping new painters get started and feeling confident. Laurie does commissioned paintings and murals.
